This is rachel’s story of their wedding held at The Langdale Chase Hotel, windermere.

Where did your wedding take place and what made you choose that location?

Langdale Chase Hotel, Lake Windermere. Knowing the unpredictability of British weather we wanted to get married somewhere where the landscape would be beautiful even if it was raining and after spending our 3 year anniversary in Keswick we fell in love with the Lake District.

What was your colour scheme or wedding theme?

We wanted to tie in with the spring season so went for sage green, green also being my (Rachael) favourite colour. Throughout the planning we also had a mantra “Elegantly Simple” and stuck to it so we didn’t get carried away.

Tell us about your dress?

It was the very first dress I tried on and it was love at first sight. I got butterflies in my tummy and although I did try on several other dresses that was the only one that felt right and the only one that reduced my Mum to tears.

Did you have ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue?’

Yes – my something old was a heart locket that Matt gave me for our first Christmas together, my something borrowed and something blue was the garter my Mum wore for her wedding, and was given to her by her Mum and my something new was a pair of earrings that Matt bought me to match my necklace.

What was your favourite photograph (so far) and why did you like it?

We both love the photo of my Grandpa and Matt’s Dad, it’s a beautiful moment captured and perfectly symbolises the union of our two families.

What was your most useful source of wedding ideas and information?

I used the internet a lot, especially the websites confetti.co.uk and hitched.co.uk. I also talked through everything with my Mum and two bridesmaids for their thoughts and ideas.

Tell us about a supplier who provided a first-class service.

Louise at Equinox who did our hair was fantastic. Not only did she meet with me last minute the night before because I’d changed my mind again but she also did a fantastic job with all of us and made sure my hair was different from the others and was exactly what I wanted. She also kept me distracted when I my emotions were running high – not an easy task!

Alex at The Flowershop also did an amazing job with the flowers.

Do you have any advice for future brides?

If you’re having a civil ceremony and getting ready at the venue then get yourself dressed before you meet with the registrar. We ran out of time and a mad rush minutes before you walk down the aisle isn’t good for the nerves!

What was the best part of your wedding day?

The moment when we were told we were husband and wife. We both visibly relaxed and then really enjoyed the rest of the day. It was also wonderful having an hour alone together taking photos and getting used to the idea that we were married before celebrating with everyone else.

Was Derwent Photography the right photographer for you?

Based on Steve on the day and the photos we’ve seen so far it was the best decision we made. It’s such an important role, both in terms of the photos captured and also on the day, finding the balance between capturing the key moments and not being intrusive. Steve had the balance just right and put us both at ease to get the best possible photos.
