Lake District Wedding Venues
Cumbria has a stunning array of beautiful lake district wedding venues to choose from, ranging from grand lakeside hotels, to cosy little hideaways, not to mention hundreds of quaint churches and a huge amount of farms and land for local brides to have traditional church and marquee weddings.
Over the last 15 years I have worked at most, but still not all of the huge amount of lake district wedding venues in Cumbria, and am a recommended wedding photographer for many.
The thumbnails below represent a selection of places to get married in the lake district, they are a continual work in progress at the moment and I will keep adding to the selection as time goes on. Clicking on the thumbnail link will take you to a dedicated page for that venue, showing an image gallery of my work from there, and images of the venue outside and inside at different seasons and with different room layouts. You can also find blog posts and lake district wedding story interviews with brides relating to that specific venue.
Some of my favourites venues to photograph weddings at from a wide variety are:
Wedding Barn venues
New House Farm in the Lorton Valley, Cote How by Rydal Water, and Three Hills Wedding Barn at Tropenhow, all offering really cosy, personalised and bespoke places to get married in the Lake District.
Lakeside Hotel wedding wenues
The Langdale Chase & The Lowwood Hotel on the shores of Lake Windermere both have stunning views over the lake to the Langdale Pikes, while Storrs Hall, with it’s magnificent rotunda, has a dual aspect over the lake, and it’s very own folly on the end of a stone jetty. At the far end of Lake Windermere, by Newby Bridge lies The Lakeside Hotel, and right next door, but more on the river than the lake, The Swan Hotel. On the shores of Ullswater you will find Another Place Hotel, offering a unique approach to your wedding in a beautiful setting, while The Inn on the Lake has probably the most majestic setting in the Lake District. The 2 closest venues for me, are both firm favourites, not because they are only 10 mins from my Keswick photography studio, Derwent Photography, but because of their wonderful situations, one on each side of the lake.. The Lodore Hotel, nestles in the Borrowdale Valley, backed by the steep crags & woods of surprise view and overlooks Derwentwater & Skiddaw, while Lingholm Gardens Estate lies across the lake in beautiful grounds with panoramic views from the other side over Derwentwater to Skiddaw and Keswick.
Country House Hotels wedding venues
Armathwaite Hall Hotel is one of the grandest venues in the Lake District, close to Bassenthwaite Lake, Holbeck Ghyll & The Samling, sitting high above Windermere are both renowned for their food and Michelin stars. Also above Windermere, near Troutbeck, lies Broadoaks Country House House, particularly popular with same sex wedding couples. The Cragwood Hotel and The Merewood Hotel both have views of Windermere and beyond. Deep in the south lakes, on the Grange Over Sands coast of the Morecambe estuary you will find the grand Netherwood Hotel and the beautifully designed, light and airy Grange Hotel.
Castle wedding Venues
Down on the coast you will find the magnificent Muncaster Castle, complete with ghosts and it’s own church in the grounds, not to mention it’s famous birds of prey centre and gardens, not to mention it’s own duchess still living in the castle. Augill Castle near Kirby Stephen is at the other end of the scale, a boutique wedding venue with numerous awards to it’s credit and amazingly individual rooms. Askham Hall looks like a baby castle but can offer both a wedding barn &r the main hall for your ceremony. Langley Castle is strictly speaking in Northumbria, but it’s very close to the cumbrian border and I have shot there a few times, back in Cumbria proper, there is a new wedding venue, Appleby Castle, which I am looking forward to working at, it looks amazing.
The Studio
My photography studio is in Keswick, in the heart of The Lakes, directions & map on the cantact page. With ample parking it's only 20 mins off the M6 from Penrith, 20 Mins from Ambleside, or 30 mins from Windermere.
