HOLBECK GHYLL | WEDDING story of Sharon & David

How did you both meet?

Where did we meet – we actually met through a dating website!! Neither of us had done this before and it was the first date either of us agreed to through the dating site so i think we are definitely a good advert for them!!

Tell us about the proposal?

The proposal – apparently David had decided in Jan 2011 that he was going to propose so he suggested we go to new York for Easter in April, we went to central park and took a horse drawn carriage and As we went around the park David got on one knee and asked me to marry him!! He then whisked me off to Tiffanys where we had champagne and picked my engagement ring ( we then went back to new York this year and purchased matching wedding rings )

Where did your wedding take place and what made you choose that location?

The wedding took place at Holbeck Ghyll, the reason we chose this location was because we went to Holbeck Ghyll for our first weekend away together in October 2009 and fell in love with the hotel and view

What was your colour scheme or wedding theme?

The colour scheme was muted pinks and creams we wanted a vintage hollywood glamour feel and decided to have a black tie wedding, we actually had all of our stationery hand made and shipped from new York ( I will send you one of the invites steve if you want to include a photograph as they are truly gorgeous and have a vintage diamanté and pearl brooch on each of them) we actually had the same brooches and ribbon that were on the invitations on the brides and bridesmaid bouquets and also incorporated a diamanté buckle onto each of the guest chairs to coordinate, our flowers were all arranged in tall martini glasses with foliage cascading down, with hurricane lanterns and candles on each of the fireplaces

Tell us about your dress?

The dress – my dress was a hand made Sassi holford dress which was made of satin and vintage lace, it was strapless with buttons down the back, I had a matching lace shrug made which buttoned into the dress and also had a full length silk veil. My shoes were from jimmy choo, my headdress was a vintage style diamanté tiara and David’s suit was from Hugo boss

Did you have ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue?’

I didn’t have all of the something old and borrowed etc but David did buy me as a wedding gift a pair of diamond studs

What was your favourite photograph and why did you like it?

Our favourite photograph is the one where we have exchanged rings and are looking at each other and smiling ( black and White) this is because it captures on film exactly how we were feeling at that precise moment, it’s just a beautiful photograph and one that we will treasure forever

What was your most useful source of wedding ideas and information?

Most useful source has to be wedding magazines, Internet and we also had really good wedding planners at Holbeck Ghyll who suggested some great artistes and ideas

Tell us about a supplier who provided a first-class service.

Suppliers – to be honest they were all fantastic, we decided to have a soprano for the ceremony and two singers for the remainder of the day and they really did set the tone for the wedding, we had some guests crying whilst the soprano sang and what can I say about Paul Dobie and Daniel the singers, they were amazing and really got the party started!! But every single one of our suppliers went the extra mike and produced extraordinary work for us

Do you have any advice for future brides?

What advice would I give- enjoy every moment and Invest in a fantastic photographer, after the wedding good photography is your constant reminder of your special day

What was the best part of your wedding day?

The best part of the day was saying my vows and marrying David

Was Derwent Photography the right photographer for you?

Derwent photography were the right choice for us as the work steve produces is exceptional! Choice of photographer was one of our most Important decisions after the venue and it was one of the things we booked as soon as the ceremony and venue were booked, to ensure we could get derwent photography and we have been truly blown away his photography
