Wedding Story-Kirsty & Matt’s Netherwood Hotel wedding

See the highlights from Kirsty & Matt’s Netherwood Hotel wedding on the blog here

How did you both meet?

We met at Lancaster University. We met in ‘Fresher’s week’ and it took only 10 weeks of persuasion from Matt to have our first kiss!

Tell us about the proposal?

After 18 months of pressure and a few incorrectly anticipated proposal occasions by Kirst, Matt finally proposed on a bright blue winters morning in Cuerdan Valley Park, our local park. It was a normal Saturday’s morning walk and the proposal was at the top of one of the hills overlooking the park’s lake. We returned home to have a celebratory lunch with all the family.

Why a lake district wedding?

We love walking and Cumbria. We have spent a lot of time in the Lake district and there is no place as beautiful (even in the rain!)

Tell us about your wedding venue & why you chose The Netherwood Hotel?

We were very keen to have enough bedrooms for all our guests to stay and ideally wanted ‘exclusive use’ of the hotel. We were very keen to have separate rooms for the ceremony and the wedding breakfast and the Netherwood ticked theses boxes, along with having gorgeous views, wood panelling and open fires. We narrowed our search down to two hotels and the home-made cookies at The Netherwood sealed the deal for us!

What was your colour scheme or wedding theme?

The colour scheme was lavender. We tried to incorporate lavender in all aspects of the day (stationary / table settings / flowers / venue decoration)

Tell us about your dress?

The dress was Blue by Enzoani and it was bought at Dreamcatcher in Kirkham, who were absolutely brilliant. They were extremely patient and helpful thoughout buying and all the fittings.

Did you have ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue?’

I did:

My something old was an old ring from my brother

My something new was my diamond earrings given as a wedding gift on the morning of the wedding from the groom

My something borrowed was my great grandmother’s eternity ring

My something blue was my family’s tartan garter

What was your favourite photograph and why did you like it?

We have a few favourites!!

Me and my chief bridesmaid getting ready in our pyjamas

My dad waving in the chaotic room

Me and my dad hugging before the ceremony

The one of my mum reading her poem in the ceremony

The Green family smiling in their huddle before the ceremony

Bernard standing on the chair during the love train

All of friends surrounding us dancing

Steve and Amy joining us in our first dance

You really captured all the emotion and happiness of the day

What was your most useful source of wedding ideas and information?

Brides magazine

Tell us about a supplier who provided a first-class service.

All of the below were absolutely fantastic:

Dreamcatcher’s Bridal Shop

Katie Dale – Make Up and Hair

Howard Wing – Entertainment

Derwent Photography – Photographer.

Do you have any advice for future brides?

Relax and enjoy it because it will be the best day of your life!

What was the best part of your wedding day?

The wedding breakfast with all our family and friends up dancing and singing with Howard Wing.

Was Steve from Derwent Photography the right wedding photographer for you?

Absolutely! I spoke to Steve to say that we wanted very little formal shots (we wanted documentary photography) and he said he would have all group and the bride and groom shots done in less than 20 minutes. I hoped he would keep to this, but never did I believe it could be done, but he managed it and created beautiful photos! Steve absolutely delivered everything we asked for and more. He was discrete and put all the wedding party at ease instantly. The photo’s really captured the happiness of the day. Steve was brilliant!
