Broadoaks Hotel was the setting for the wedding of Karen & Joe in early May

They chose the Broadoaks Hotel,  in Cumbria for their very special wedding with a twist. You see, his was no ordinary wedding, in fact as far as Karen and Joseph’s guests were concerned this wasn’t a wedding at all!

They were all invited for Karen’s 50th birthday celebrations at the hotel on the Friday evening and once all of the guests had arrived and the party had started Karen and Joseph announced their engagement, to the surprise and delight of everyone there.

An even bigger surprise followed quickly behind this though, when the guests were all invited to the wedding,  which was to be held at the Hotel the very following day. The guests were delighted to learn of the engagement and even more delighted (and in one case overwhelmed) to learn that they were to be part of Karen and Joseph’s special day. Quickly, everyone re-arranged their plans and there were some last minute wardrobe arrangements to be made! All the guests enthusiastically rose to the occasion to ensure that everyone was in attendance and were turned out well for Karen and Joseph’s big day. The surprise element of the wedding gave the occasion a lovely inclusive feel and made it a laid back and casual affair which gave me plenty of opportunity to get the relaxed documentary photographs that Karen and Joseph were hoping for .

Broadoaks Hotel lies in Troutbeck and nestles above Windermere, this pretty hotel, built using traditional Lake District stone and slate, has seven acres of landscaped grounds and boasts stunning views across the lake, which makes it’s a dream wedding venue .
