New House Farm wedding photography

Australia based couple Marika and James chose the gorgeous New House Farm for their wedding.

The pair met whilst New Zealand born Marika was travelling, she fell off the stage at the Inferno nightclub in London and James caught her… talk about sweeping a girl off her feet!

James proposed whilst the pair were on holiday in New Zealand, meaning Marika could celebrate with her family before returning home to start planning. They chose a Lake District wedding as Yorkshire-born James had spent a lot of time here in his youth and as a couple they had many happy holidays here. It also enable their families to have a holiday so the whole wedding had a bit of a festival feel to it.

New House Farm, a picturesque old farm house run by Hazel, tucked away in the stunning Lorton Valley, allowed Marika and James the flexibility to have the relaxed and simple day that they wanted. “We couldn’t be happier with how it turned out!” they said.

On the day Marika and James celebrated their marriage with a humanist ceremony overseen by Debra of Inspirational Ceremonies, surrounded by their family and friends. With her hair and makeup done by Natasha @ Le Roux and wearing a dress bought from a bridal boutique in Perth, Marika looked simply beautiful! Her bouquet and flowers were arranged by Evergreens of Keswick, which really added to the simple, rustic and slightly vintage feel of the day.

The ceremony was followed by champagne and congratulations to the newlyweds, whilst everyone took full advantage of the gloriously sunny day. I took the opportunity to take Marika and James off for a private photoshoot, using the stunning landscape and lakeside as the backdrop. They were a great couple to work with!

After the shoot, we rejoined the party. Everyone headed to the barn where the couple’s mothers had brought out their sewing machines to help decorate the room. Bunting and simple decorations, mixed in with candles, fairy lights and local wildflowers, gave the space a lovely, romantic atmosphere.

Everyone enjoyed a sit down meal catered for by the brilliant Karen Rhodes. After this came speeches from Marika’s bridesmaids and James’ Best Man Carl, followed by a very sweet speech from James himself after the desserts. The couple then cut their gorgeous cake, made by the Cutie Pie Cake Company and made their way to the dance floor for their first dance as man and wife. It was a beautiful moment.

The evening’s entertainment was provided by The Little Big Tones, an authentic swing and rock’n’roll band based in London and Wales. Everyone reported to the dance floor and boogied the night away!

Congratulations to Marika and James on their wedding, and also for creating a wonderfully individual wedding and lasting memories for their friends and family!
