GRANGE CHURCH & LODORE HOTEL | WEDDING story of Joanne & Mark
How did you both meet?
It was 7 years ago when we met whilst both browsing for books at a book store. When i then joined the queue in the cafe I found mark in front of me and we started to chat. We decided to share a table and that was that….
Tell us about the proposal?
Mark proposed on the cliff tops at skipsea whilst we were having a casual stroll on a sunny day in may last year. We had visited my dad and wife at his caravan there and mark had asked my dad for permission to marry me. I knew this was the reason for the visit but was totally taken by surprise when he got down on one knee!
Where did your wedding take place and what made you choose that location?
We married at the grange church in borrowdale, Cumbria. We celebrated the wedding at the lodore hotel. We choose the hotel as the right place for us as we had previously stayed on several occasions and loved the location.
What was your colour scheme or wedding theme?
We didn’t particularly have a theme but as it was a winter wedding we choose snowflakes to decorate the wedding cake. I wore an ivory dress and mark wore a grey suite with ivory waistcoat and cravat. I wanted to keep it simple. I choose bright and deep reds, purple, pinks for the flowers to add a splash of colour.
Tell us about your dress?
The dress was from Scarlett poppy in Leeds. It was the second shop I went to and i knew as soon as i put it on that it was the right one. they make the dresses especially to fit the bride and to your individual specifications, so I was able to make some small adjustments to the design. The ladies who run the business are very professional and make so much effort to make it just right for you.
Did you have ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue?’
I had the blue, new and old, but nothing borrowed!
What was your favourite photograph (so far) and why did you like it?
There are lots of favourite photos but the one that brings back so many emotions and memories is the one when I arrive at church with my dad in the background and my son comes out to hug me. This was the point when I burst into tears for the first time!
What was your most useful source of wedding ideas and information?
The information provided by the lodore hotel. We were able to search on the Internet and check out the various suppliers to make our choices.
Tell us about a supplier who provided a first-class service.
Everyone gave a very good service, especially the lodore hotel staff who made everything run so smoothly and looked after us all day.
Do you have any advice for future brides?
Don’t worry too much about the day it will all go to plan and if it doesn’t, well that’s just part of your story.
What was the best part of your wedding day?
The service was a very special time for us. It was made very personal by the reverend. But we loved it all, the whole day was perfect, and the most romantic event ever….
Was Steve at Derwent Photography the right photographer for you?
Absolutely, the contact with derwent photography was very professional from initial enquiry through to the wedding day itself. Steve organised all the guests and group photos, and then took pictures of the day capturing all the moments that tell the story of our day. We hardly knew he was there.
