On a weekend away in Keswick with a young people’s walking group back in 2003!
Simon arrived home from work and I came downstairs to greet him, only to find him down on bended knee in the lounge with champagne and flowers! There was no ring as I’d previously dropped hints that ring shopping is a task that should be done together:)!
We got married at Augill Castle near Kirkby Stephen. We wanted a relaxed, intimate wedding with immediate family and a few close friends. We didn’t want a disco and all the usual paraphernalia, we just wanted a lovely meal and for everyone to be able to sit and chat in comfortable surroundings and to be able to stay the night. Augill fitted the bill perfectly! We cant recommend it highly enough as a place to get married.
We got married on 13th October so went for an autumnal theme with our wedding stationery, flowers and cake.
It’s a Madeline Gardner New York (MGNY) gown. Very simple in style – A-line, made from tulle with a layer of sequin embroidered fabric underneath (giving the occasional subtle sparkle) and a beautiful beaded sash around the waist . I think the word everyone used to describe it was “elegant”!
Erm, no! I had something new (dress), something new (shoes), something new (underwear) and something new (garter – present from my mum!). Good job I’m not superstitious eh!
What was your favourite photograph (so far) and why did you like it? Of the photographs we’ve seen so far, there’s a couple of really lovely ones featuring our nieces and nephews. They just captured the moment and would be almost impossible to stage or repeat again!
The internet. How did people plan weddings before it was around?!? Thanks to the internet we found some amazingly talented people who beaver away in their own homes making beautiful things. Two of our favourites are Daisy Cupcakes (www.daisycupcakes.net) who made our beautiful and delicious wedding cake and cupcakes (not your ordinary cupcakes!) and Vicky Trainor (www.vicktrainor.co.uk) who makes beautiful handmade wedding stationery.
Impossible to single out just one. Aside from the two mentioned above, Augill Castle provided first class service before the wedding and during our stay for big event. Lucinda Hayton did my hair and make up and did a fab job! Steve from Derwent was also brilliant – very helpful and easy to work with and we love the photos we’ve seen so far on Derwent’s Facebook page.
Just relax and enjoy the day – it all goes so quickly so make sure you take everything in!
It’s hard to single one thing out. The whole day was amazing and exceeded our expectations.
Definitely. In the early days of planning our wedding we wondered whether it was worth investing in a professional photographer as we have friends who are fairly handy with their cameras! However, it was definitely a worthwhile investment. Steve was at the top of our list of desired photographers and we were so glad he was available when we asked! He really captured the essence of the day and we’ve got some fabulous images to help us to remember our day by.
