AUGILL CASTLE | WEDDING story of Zarah & Andrew

How did you both meet?

We met in our regular pub. I (Zarah) remember talking to him and knowing that this is the man I wanted to be with.

I (Andrew) remember her walking into the pub and being blown away. It was like a scene from a movie; everything slowed down, all the noise cancelled out and everything apart from her went away.

Tell us about the proposal?

Andrew whisked me away for a birthday treat to a 5* boutique hotel. We stayed in a Champagne room and as we were leaving the room to go to dinner he said he forgot something in the room. He went back in but he was taking forever! As I opened the door, to shout at him of all things, he was down on one knee with the most beautiful engagement ring. He asked me to be his wife and I said yes!! We spent the rest of the night celebrating!!

Why a lake district wedding? and what made you choose your venue?

I (Zarah) was born in Berlin, Germany. When I first moved to England with my mum and my brother we ran a pub in Greystoke and I instantly fell in love with the Lake District. The views and the landscapes are so breath taking, they blew me away!

Tell us about your wedding venue and why you chose that location?

About 2 years ago I was looking for a mini break for us and our son when I came across Augill Castle. It looked amazing from the website and we fell in love when we visited. So when we were booking our wedding the first place we thought of was Augill!! We had an absolutely amazing day and I wish I could do it again every day!!

What was your colour scheme or wedding theme?

We had a purple and gold colour scheme.

Tell us about your dress?

I’m not really a girly girl so dress shopping, for me, was stressful!! Like every girl I wanted to feel beautiful on my wedding day. I kept it simply, no frills. White, A line with slight sequin detail round the waist.

Did you have ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue?

Not really, nothing on purpose! There may have been accidental old, new, borrowed and blue.

What was your favourite photograph and why did you like it?

There are so many to choose from that I love!! Probably my favourite one is during the ceremony there is a moment right before me and Andrew kissed and we are looking into each other’s eyes. Steve managed to capture this loving and tender moment that we can treasure forever .

What was your most useful source of wedding ideas and information?

My friends. They helped me with everything! I think every woman has an idea or has thought about their dream wedding. It takes an army of people to make that dream come true.

Do you have any advice for future brides?

Just slow down and enjoy your day!! Take it all in because it goes by so quickly.

What was the best part of your wedding day?

Being with all the people we love and celebrating the best moment of our lives!

Was Steve of Derwent Photography the right photographer for you?

Definitely!! He was an instant hit with everyone!! He , somehow, remembered everyone’s name and knew them instantly!! He has taken and produced beautiful and amazing pictures. He captured the mood of the day perfectly!
