Julie & Mathew’s Askham Hall wedding
You can hear more about Julie’s wedding in her interview on my lake district wedding stories page here
Julie and Matthew chose to get married in St Peter’s Church in the pretty village of Askham in Cumbria, and have the bridal preps and the wedding reception in the stunning Askham Hall, just a 100 yards from the church. The church was decorated elegantly with flowers by Matthew’s mum and sister. Doing the flowers for weddings at St Peter’s is something they had both done many times before so they were of course thrilled to be able to decorate the church with flowers on this special day.
Julie arrived in a Rolls Royce and her elegant handmade dress, (the first of Mia Bridal’s own couture range of dresses designed by owner Sarah) was complemented by a last minute gift from Matthew of some tiffany earrings (a gift he had entrusted to Julie’s mum to pass on, though in all the wedding excitement she had almost forgot to hand them over!)
After the service guests were led from the church by a traditional piper on a procession through the picturesque gardens of Askham Hall and around onto the lawn for drinks before the wedding breakfast, held in Askham Hall’s Grade 2 listed barn. Its bare stone walls, beamed oak ceiling combined with contemporary lighting and large glass doors give it a luxurious, stylish and authentic feel. Set within the Lowther Estate it is a unique setting and is a perfect venue.
The speeches were impressive with everybody on fine form. Best man Tommy (Matthew’s brother) read a hilarious extract from his father’s old diary where he expressed his thoughts about Matthew’s future sexual orientation. Tommy’s speech also included a nostalgic rendition of the theme tune from the 1980’s TV series ‘The Littlest Hobo’ and ended with Julie and Matthew having a quick game of Mr and Mrs. (he even bought along the voting paddles!)
Congratulations to Julie and Matthew for getting married and giving yourselves, your family and your friends a truly special day to remember.
