ANOTHER PLACE & RHEGED | WEDDING story of Lorraine & David

How did you both meet?

We had met each other many years before at the works social club but it wasn’t until David had a house party for the Football World Cup in 2006 that we got together. I went along as a friend of a friend and the rest is history…

Tell us about the proposal?

Valentines day 2011, an outdoor hot tub, drinking champagne, under a starry sky, surrounded by moon lit snow covered mountains whilst on a skiing holiday in Val D’Isere France, couldn’t have been any better!

Where did your wedding take place and what made you choose that location?

We had a number of appointments at local venues but as soon as we met Tracey at Another Place we went no further. The hotel was just the right size for the small wedding day we wanted, with separate rooms for each section of our day. It had everything, fantastic bedrooms, lovely grounds for the photos, views of the lake from the dining room, an outdoor seating area (thankfully the weather was good enough to make use of it) and the most enthusiastic and helpful staff to which to entrust your day too. We moved to the Rheged Centre in the evening to host a canapé reception and a full night ‘do’

Tell us about your dress?

My dress was designed and handmade by dressmaker Jacquie Kidd of Glassonby. I helped design the dress based on one I had seen and tried on – I wanted a unique bespoke dress that would fit perfectly and enhance my figure so I opted to have it made especially for me. It was a slim A-line design in white duchess satin with built in shoulders and had deep v shaped necklines at both the front and back. The bodice was heavily encrusted with beaded and re-embroidered lace. It had a figure flattering pleated effect at the waistline and lace and flower detail with tails hanging over an asymmetric tulle and lace panel on the skirt. The train also had lace detail.

What was your colour scheme or wedding theme?

We’ve never been very good at matching colours but we knew we wanted a bold colour and as it was summer we decided to go with a bold fuchsia colour. We complemented this with dark grey suits for the men and silver accessories for the bridesmaids. As the bridesmaid gowns were also made by Jacquie we were able to get extra material and use small pieces of it on the table plan.

Did you have ‘something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue?’

I’d not given this a thought so it was a good job my mother and chief bridesmaid came prepared. I had my new dress, a borrowed garter with a blue flower on it and a very old (clean!) lace handkerchief tucked into the garter,

What was your favourite photograph (so far) and why did you like it?

All of them! We really like the one of us on the rock at Martindale that we used for thank you cards- we are really glad that we made time for a trip round the lake. We also like the ones from the speeches, peoples reactions were captured brilliantly – our favourite is the one of the Chief Bridesmaid and David Ridley laughing.

What was your most useful source of wedding ideas and information?

I bought numerous copies of ‘wedding ideas’ magazine and I found this really useful for DIY tips and website links.

Tell us about a supplier who provided a first-class service.

Just about every supplier we used provided exactly what we asked for but we had especially slick service from Another Place,  Jacquie Kidd Saunders Chocolates (free samples – need I say more….) Eden House of Cakes

Do you have any advice for future brides?

Pee forward – I’ve never heard of doing that till you told me on my wedding morning!! If you have a train it’s a must!! Just try and relax and enjoy your day. You will have spent months planning everything you can so there is nothing more you can do on the day so just try and take it all in – it’s over so fast!

What was the best part of your wedding day?

All of it! Relaxed Service Chilling in the gardens in the sun with G&T’s Relaxed photos Lovely food Rally round the lake Riotous bus journey to Rheged Excellent band (the dance floor was full all night!) After party in our room Staying up till 4:30 to watch the sun rise over Ullswater

Was Steve at Derwent Photography the right photographer for you?

Definitely! We don’t have much family so an album full of posed shots would be very thin! We really liked the idea of having a ‘story of the day’ type album. Steve blended in with the guests and most of the time you didn’t even know he was taking photos. By the end of the day Steve was more like a guest, joining in with the banter and having his photo taken too!!
